First description of our project[modifier | modifier le wikicode]

First description of our project's idea
Title of your project
Dépollustyrène

1. What Problem do you want to solve ?
We want to deal with the problem of polystyrene, as it is a material that pollutes a lot. Indeed, the very issue of polystyrene lies in the fact that it is hard to recycle. Furthermore, this material is not biodegradable, so it is difficult for companies as well as for citizens to know how to deal with this kind of waste. Even though many recycling methods have been found, there is no broadband access to these solutions. A case in point is that in France, only 10% of the total amount of polystyrene used by companies is recycled. That means that 90% of the polystyrene is either incinerated or buried.

2. Why does this problem exist?
This issue exists because lots of companies use this material as a protection for their goods while transportation and also for insulation. It is also used in fast food restaurants, to pack food; but it is not that good for health. Furthermore, many companies and customers use this product, as it is very cheap, and good value for money. Polystyrene is insulating and naturally resistant, it is the reason why it is a very popular material.

3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating? We thought of two potential ways to deal with this issue. First, a more efficient recycling method, so that more than 50% of the polystyrene could be recycled. Secondly, finding a substitute that could also be used as a protection in transportation, but also as a material in insulation. This substitute would be biodegradable.
