First description of our project[modifier | modifier le wikicode]
Providing a solution against domestic water waste
Shower Manager
1. What Problem do you want to solve ?
The average amount of water used per shower scales from 50 to 80 liters, and can reach 200 liters for baths in countries such as France. We are convinced that the use of such quantities of drinkable water is unnecessary. Eventually, it was clear to us that, when showering, people pay absolutely no attention to the volume of water that they are using. This leads countries like France to misuse a significant part of their water resources, water that is essentially thrown away.
2. Why does this problem exist?
We have identified 2 main reasons why there is such waste in countries like France. The following 2 elements summarize our water consumption habits:
- First, water is abundantly available and easily accessible in countries like France, where water facilities are well set everywhere ;
- Water is abundant but never free. However, it still is the cheapest vital resource that we have access to in developed countries.
It is clear that water conservation is not seen as an emergency by the average citizen. We have found that this lack of interest is strongly due to a lack of awareness : people in general have definitely no idea of their daily water consumption, and very few people are familiar with situations such as in some territories where water scarcity is a life threatening issue.
3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating?
We have thought of a simple, efficient and responsible way of showering. We are convinced that if we suggest a clear method, one that could be easily followed thanks to an elementary device, it would lead to drastic changes in people's habits, and eventually to major water savings, at best, at a national scale. Our idea is groundbreaking as we are not merely committed to save drinkable water, in fact our intent is to affect people's very lifestyles and spread awareness regarding resource scarcity.
