First description of our project[modifier | modifier le wikicode]

First description of our project's idea
How to bring people and companies avoiding wild dumping ?

1. What Problem do you want to solve ?

Recycling is well developed and included into societies. Indeed, most of cities are carrying out complex and comprehensive recycling system. People have for example more and more access to sorting bins. However the phenomenon of illegal landfill has surprisingly been gathering pace and wreak havoc on the society.

Wild and illegal dumping is a spreading scourge. Beyond primary effects such as visual and odour pollution, ground, water, air etc. are contaminated resulting into public health, safety, property values and quality of life issues.

2. Why does this problem exist?

We have spotlighted 3 main reasons that could explain the existence of this problem: An inefficient eco-responsability: ours is a society where people tend to be regarded as responsible consumers but in fact, a lack of environmental responsibility damages the population that is not always aware of the (deep) consequences of its actions such as ground and water contamination. A lack of alternative for the waste disposal: restricted access, inconvenient opening hours of the waste collection centers, resulting costs, lack of time etc. are discouraging a lot of citizens. An economical disadvantage for companies: many huge companies prefer to throw their waste everywhere in nature and hence exposing themselves to huge penalties, rather than put them in waste collection center because of fortune they have to spend for it.

3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating?

- to play the role of an eye-opener regarding this new bane
- to bring an enlightening outlook on solutions
- to bridge the information gap existing on this pledge
- to limit the growth of already existent illegal landfill and to avoid the establishment of new one.

The challenge is both :

- to bring companies to find an advantage involving their waste in the legal recycling system instead of choosing to dump them into illegal landfill (through an ethical and economically profitable reward system for example)
- AND to make the life of consumers easier so that they change their way to dispose of their waste and make them aware of long-term issues of such a behavior.

Potential experts already identified

In order to help us to solve the problem or find a way to reduce it, we can contact the mayor of the most important city in France such as Ms Aubry, for Lille, Jean-Claude Gaudin for Marseille or Anne Hidalgo for Paris. We can also try to contact public organisms for collecting garbages and sorting office. Associations can also be an actor and help to find a solution. Société Nationale de Protection de la Nature (The SNPN is the oldest association concerning the protection of the nature in France. ) Small and medium sized companies which include in their service the removal of former household electrical appliances. Leroy Merlin, Boulanger, Darty, Auchan, Carrefour…. But also some firms and companies in transport like TLF ( Transport et Logistique de France).
