First description of our project[modifier | modifier le wikicode]
First description of our project's idea
Provide a proposition of title for your project
Please answer to the three expected questions:
1. What Problem do you want to solve ?
We would like to solve the problem of overconsumption of plastic bottles used in free access devices (coffee machines, fast food restaurants, housing). Every year in France, 4 billions of plastic glasses are used for 67 million of inhabitants. Indeed, the disposal of plastic products, especially bottles has created a global environmental crisis, which requires preventive actions. Plastic bottles and other waste are dumped in landfills, rivers, and oceans, which contaminate soil, the water, marine life, and the air. We can illustrate this fact with a few data. Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour, it takes fifty to eighty years for a bottle to decompose and only 14% of bottle of plastic are recycled. There is even a plastic continent which has been created because of the plastic overconsumption.
2. Why does this problem exist?
Plastic waste is a widely recognized source of pollution, finished products made of plastic are often non-biodegradable so their disposal creates environmental damages in land and water. People use products made out of plastic in their everyday life. It is hard to tell people not to use them. This problem exists because plastic is such a cheap material and because it is very easy to use and to throw it after.
3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating?
We would like to reduce the use of bottle made of plastic. To do that, we were thinking about a way to substitute plastic material and creating a new way of selling beverages. The main idea is to limit significantly the consumption of plastic containers by rethinking the free access devices selling any kind of beverages (using plastic bottles or glasses). Changing people’s minds and make them aware about plastic wasting is hard. So we prefer to act using technology.
