For October, 2, you are asked to publish the following elements on your "First assignment of group n° XXX" wiki page (as a remind, it is only the technology manager that may published the information on the wiki):

ACCESSED RESOURCES

Please provide a full list of all resources consulted by every member of the group, by specifying for each member the resources he/she has explored and analyzed. Each member must have watched at least 3 videos in line with your planned project, must have accessed and read at least 5 documents (articles, blogs, websites, ...) and read at least one book. Please provide the full references of the accessed materials so that teachers could access on them if needed. Coordinate yourself so that you can access and read different materials.

FIRST DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT AND POTENTIAL EXPERTS

Finding an idea?
Your project can be anything that you want to create and share with others. It could be an innovative sustainable product or service, a new infrastructure, an innovative idea to solve a problem of the society, ... Pretty much anything you envision can find a home on OSlantis. The most important for us is that your innovative project must generate both environmental and social benefits (please, do not forget that sustainability is much broader than preserving nature... Any idea to better handle disability or to better taking care of elderly poor people, ... may be a relevant project for this course). Keep in mind that your project should allow to design a prototype as potential solution (a process could be prototyped, e.g. as a method or a relevant business case demonstrating the feasibility of a service). Therefore, you must be realistic in the formulation of your idea and be sure that the current state of the art in terms of knowledge or technology allow to prototype your idea (proposing to develop a new system of teleportation e.g. does not seem really realistic)
Your idea should be truly sustainable on all its dimension. Just keep your project focused, with a clear end goal, and you’ll be good. You must read carefully the "Detailed Campaign Guide" on the OSlantis website to fully understand what is expected from your group in this course. In addition to the recommendation explained in this guide, here are additional requirements you must meet to design your project.

  • Your innovative project should address a real problem of the society. It may be related to:
    • a problem having no satisfying existing solutions (e.g. the de pollution of the pacific garbage patch, the lack of security on the Internet, the organisation of collective intelligence to find innovative solutions to global issues, the crisis of the democracy, the lack of solid governance structure in collaborative economy, the decrease in motivation in the workplace, the rise of stress and socio psychological risk in everyday life, ...)
    • a lack of money that circulates toward the given problem (e.g. an orphan disease with no money to support research, the lack of money to support the development of culture and to fund artists, ...)
    • a technological standard or dominant design/paradigm that forecloses an entire industry in a given approach (e.g. the petrol engine in the aircraft industry, the copyright issue in academic research and the related challenges around open data's, the traditional way of learning at school, ...)
    • the stigmatisation or the poor image of a problem that encourages people not to engage in this problem (e.g. the family violence, the waste industry, the malnutrition, ...)
    • existing systems that foreclose innovative approaches (e.g. the taxi VS UBER)
  • Your innovative project should be able to convince people to fund it through a crowdfunding campaign
  • The related project should be easy to present and to explain
  • It must be possible to evaluate objectively the solution of your project through measurable and/or assessable indicators (you will need to define these criteria you will use to judge if someone has achieved to find a solution)
  • Do not forget that at the end of the project, the potential produced solution will be released in open source

Here is an example of an interesting case that could have been a wonderful one to be posted on OSlantis at the early stage of the project:

What is expected from you?
For this first assignment, you must answer to those three questions:
1. What Problem do you want to solve ?
2. Why does this problem exist?
3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating?
An example is available on http://oslantis.com/projects/bambooni-the-first-bamboo-unicycle-frame/
The answers to those three questions will be validated by your referent teacher.

A list of potential experts
Having define criteria that will be used to judge if someone has achieved to find a solution, you need to establish a panel of experts that will evaluate the potential solutions generated by the crowdsourcing stage in the light of these criteria. The more serious and well known the experts are, the more trusty and convincing will be your project. But of course, you need to be sure you will be able to convince them to join the panel if solutions to your project are proposed.

Instructions for the technology manager[modifier | modifier le wikicode]

Being in charge of publishing the first assignment on the wiki, here is a guide to help you doing this properly.

  • Step 1: go on the Working Groups page and click on your "First assignment of group n° XXX" link (in red at this stage). Please check you have properly mentioned the number of your group in place of the XXX before clicking on this link. This will create a new page and edit it.
  • Step 2: copy the wiki code here below, do not change anything in this page (and do not save anything). Then go to your wiki page (the one that has been edited by the weblink you have activated) and paste it on this new wiki page you have just created. Save it and edit it just after.
  • Step 3: mention all the needed information to meet the expectations of this first assignment.
