The topic we have decided to explore is the following : How to heat houses with low energy consumption ?
Our video deals with the fact that energy consumption is higher than ever so it's important to solve this major problem. It also contains two experts interviews who answer important questions on the subject.The goal of this video is to the raise the awareness of each person in order to find solutions for this big question.

We want to give you more information about our project and examples of solution that already exist or initiatives that will be developed in the next few years. These sample of solutions are a way for us to show you the kind of solution we could find if you support us on “How to heat houses with low energy consumption?”

In terms of optimizing energy consumption of households, several generations of services have been developed. Initially, operators (distributors, energy providers, producers, manufacturers of electrical appliances) have created services that allowed to inform users on optimization measures in production and distribution and the consumption. More recently, a second energy approach to optimization was developed. It is based on the ability of consumers to monitor and adapt their own consumption.


Enclosures connected to the smartphone to control consumption

Mobile devices can also become remote to program the activation of electrical devices connected through boxes (on the model of “box” offered by Internet service providers). This allows for example to switch on appliances at times of lower consumption and lower cost.

Smart thermostats and sensors connected to the smartphone

A former Apple engineer company where he led the design of the iPhone, designed the Nest smart thermostat. This thermostat is able to automatically adjust the temperature of the house, by combining data from sensors and analysing the user's preference. The user can also analyse the impact of different modes of consumption on the energy bill. Moreover it is possible to control the remote thermostat via a smartphone, computer or tablet.

Software platform

The French start-up GridPocket has developed a software platform for energy management to energy distributors. It allows to offer customers control of electricity consumption with solutions via web or mobile interface. GridPocket developed a software module to control home appliances (electric heaters, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.) that allows an energy supplier to proceed, during peak demand, reducing their consumption.

"Intelligent" approach of electric consumption data

The development of this new generation of user services requires that electricity companies like ERDF (Electricité réseau de France) provide access to consumption data. In France, the terms of access to the Linky electric meter data created by ERDF are not yet completely decided. France can follow USA with the “Green Button” initiative, promoted by the White House that aims to standardize access to data on their electricity consumption over the last 13 months. This procedure enables users to obtain this information in a standardized and secure format. The development of this common standard allows electricity operators but also publishers and application developers to create services and applications based on these data. These applications allow consumers to optimize their consumption and opt for differentiated tariffs depending on time of use.
