A solution for color-blind desease
1. What Problem do you want to solve ?
Color blindness is a deficiency affecting more than 8% of the worldwide population. This genetically transmitted anomaly, carry on all life without worsening or improvement. This handicap produces repercussions in everyday life such as the difficulty to make shopping for instance. Some jobs are prohibited for color-blind people as pharmacist or airline pilote. Thus, our group aims at solving one problem: finding a cheap and affordable solution for blind people to see real colors.
2. Why does this problem exist?
People affecting of color blindness are not able to distinguish every color and are not able to perceive color differences under normal lighting circumstances. The anomaly is due to a fault in the development of the retinal cones in charge of transmitted information to the optic nerve.
3. What breakthrough are you commited to creating?
Very recently, the American company, Valspar and the Californian startup EnChroma created and designed glasses which can separate colors, allowing color-blind people to perceive colors and make the difference between blue, yellow, pink… However, glasses are very expensive and not affordable for everybody. Our challenge is not only technological but mainly economic since existing solution today are very expensive.
